Inspiring Education & Conservation

What better way to learn about animals and how we humans can become better stewards of Earth’s wildlife than visiting a zoo? The animals of the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo are the cornerstone and inspiration for every educational program we offer.

With over 200 animals, there couldn’t be better learning opportunities: for families, school groups, and community or organization events for anyone interested in the wonderful creatures we share this planet with.

Zoo Camp

AGCZ Summer Zoo Camp will run for 8 week-long sessions beginning the week of June 5-9 and concluding the week of July 31-August 4. Day camp hours are 8:30 am- 3:30 pm. Camps are available for rising Kindergarten- 1st Grade, 2nd- 3rd Grade, 4th- 5th Grade, and 6th-8th Grade. Campers will learn information based around the camp’s theme, have up-close and hands-on experiences, create take-home crafts, and so much more! Registration closes on May 12, 2023.

Avenues For Learning

School Groups

When you think about it, a zoo is the coolest classroom ever, and we love when School Groups come to visit. Learning about animals is never boring when you’re feeding an alpaca that just might spit on your shoe! We provide fun, fascinating, science-based facts about our zoo animals, and inspire kids to learn the importance of wildlife conservation.

Our zookeepers provide easy-to-understand science-based information and fun factoids about our zoo animals that will energize kids to keep learning, both inside and outside of the classroom. We hope we can inspire teachers too.

We offer a discounted admission rate of $8.00 per person with a minimum of 15 students and chaperones. Teachers and bus drivers get in free and there’s no minimum for daycare groups. Advance reservations are required. Ask about adding an educational program to your visit.

Community Outreach

Our local communities play a very important role in life at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. Our Community Outreach Program is a way for us to bring our Ambassador Animals to a variety of happenings beyond the zoo’s gates, everything from municipal activities and holiday celebrations to charity fundraisers and civic organization events.

What We Do & Where

By going mobile with some of our most extroverted and easily transportable zoo animals, we are able to bring unique educational opportunities to a wide range of public and private venues.

Interactive Learning

Interacting with some of the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo’s most gentle and friendliest creatures in our Animal Adventures program is an educational experience beyond compare. Under the guidance of our keepers, we’re able to engage each participant and teach them about the animal species in its natural habitat and status in the wild, its life at the zoo, and so much more.

Keeper Presentations

Ask a zookeeper what they like best about their job – other than caring for animals – and their answer is always teaching kids (grown-ups too) about animals. Through our many Keeper Presentations & Stage Shows, education + entertainment = laughs and lots of oohs and aahs about animals that may inspire another generation of zookeepers!
