Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo Announces the Arrival of Three New African Lions

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo announced the arrival of three African lions as part of the zoo family on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 10:00 am.

The lions were received through a partnership with the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. The lions, two males and one female, named Daniel, Chadwick and Regina, were born at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium and will play a critical role in the survival of their species due to their genetic importance.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo was approached by the Zoological Association of America (ZAA) to become an active partner in establishing new genetic lines within the North American population of African lions.

As a member of this ZAA Animal Management Plan, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo will be working with accredited zoos across the United States to monitor and control breeding of the African lion population to ensure the future of African lions in North America.

What a great zoo! We were very pleased with everything about it. It’s clean, there’s plenty of restrooms, they let you bring in your lunch or you can stop and pick up something from a pretty good variety of snacks and sandwiches from machines or go to a cafe. My daughter liked the carousel as well! Note that the carousel and the experiences are extra costs so read up on those before you visit. 👍

We enjoyed our visit to the Zoo. The wife and I visit Foley Alabama three times a year. This was our first time visiting the zoo there. There wasn’t a line to get inside, and had a great experience. Can’t wait to visit again.😊

We loved our visit! Such an affordable option for a zoo. Plenty of animals to see. Loved how close you get to all of them. Very clean and tidy. Disappointed the tigers weren’t out though. But overall a fantastic experience! Our kids loved it.

Such a beautiful zoo! Very clean with ample restrooms and benches. There were so many animals to see which was very unexpected. We saw tigers, lyons, monkeys, giraffes, lemurs, many types of local birds, etc. For an extra fee, you can feed the giraffes and have an opportunity to get up close and personal with several different zoo animals.

There is a great little enclosed bird area with turtles where you can sit and watch the birds. They also have a great gift shop with wonderful gift items.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We had a great time watching the animals and will definitely be back!

Very nice small zoo. They offered feeding a giraffe for $5 during a certain time window…very worth it! It is a beautiful zoo, a nice layout also with a petting zoo of farm animals for small kids. They have a merry-go-round. You can take a small motorized car ride to see a few animals. Enjoyed the day at the zoo. Employees work hard and are very knowledgeable.
